Dogs chase Cats?

Identity Crisis
I have always had animals and they seem to always have identity crisis. I am starting to wonder if there is something in the air in my house, or if it's my parenting skills that cause my animals to go crazy. The main gist of this story will be about my current dog and cat but as I started writing I remembered that my horse had also had an identity problem so lets start there.
A few years ago I was the proud owner of a beautiful 16 hands high Quarter Horse Gelding. He was a lot of fun to ride and just be around. Then one day I noticed that as he was running through our fields he would pause and pounce (yes pounce as in all four hooves off the ground at once) on butterflies. I thought this extremely odd but soon forgot all about it. As I was exercising him one day he did the same thing and proceeded to "sneak" up on butterflies and garden snakes. At this point I realized my horse was having an identity crisis and thought himself a cat. It was so bizarre and until the day I had to sell him he would consistently be seen sneaking up and pouncing on things in the fields. This horse would also eat almost anything giving off the impersonation of a goat. And strangest of all is he acted as sort of a watch horse as he would "bark" and people passing by. (I have no idea what the noise was but it was nothing I had heard from a horse before)
Now onto my current mentally unstable animals. I am the blessed owner of a small Maine coon cat and a 95 lb Pit Bull Hound mix. These animals are like my children (as I have non of the human kind myself). Anyways my cat will constantly chase my dog around the house. And I do not mean in a playful game of tag kind of way, I mean full force she wants to kill him kind of way. And my dog will run away and hide, or cower in the corner or run to me for protection. I often find myself scolding my dog as to the insanity of his plight as he is indeed 90 lbs HEAVIER than the impending doom chasing him. But of course all I can do is laugh.
The other day as I was sitting immy living room watching a movie with the dog (Brutus) very quietly laying on the floor sleeping. My cat (Booger, yes you can laugh everyone does) decided to fly over the chair I was sitting in and attack Brutus's head. The funny part about this image for those that were not there to experience it first had is that Booger is only slightly bigger than Brutus's head, So the image of her attacking such a bigger animal is quite humorous. What made this scene even funnier was Brutus' reaction to the attack. He started crying and curled in on himself to try and get away from Booger's attacks.
This above image happens often in my house but what also happens is the fact that Booger will actually chase Brutus around the house. She will make a noise that is almost a bark to get his attention and then run after him. Brutus will run away to me to try and hide from Booger.
Now as I said. My animals have identity crises, I just wish I would get my camera out more often to capture some of their antics on film.
